Wolves multiplying rapidly
State wildlife authorities predict as many as 15 new litters of wolves will be born in southern Norway and Sweden this year. Reproduction is expected in most of the area's registered wolf packs.
That's good news for conservationists, but ranchers are already sounding the alarms. Applications for new wolf hunts to control the population are already under consideration.
The wildlife authorities also noted that wolf pups are likely to wander away from their families and establish themselves in new areas.
Studies done last winter indicate there are 12 wolf families roaming Southern Scandinavia.
