Wildlife authorities in Oppland county, which has jurisdiction over Gudbrandsdalen, approved the hunt late last week. A team of 12 hunters have one week to track down the animal they claim is threatening local livestock.
The newspaper Nationen reported that 35 lambs have been attacked by a wolf in and around Skåbu, a small town northwest of Lillehammer. Ranchers generally release their lambs for unrestrained summer grazing in Norway, leaving them vulnerable to predators.
The hunt started overthe weekend. The area isn't considered prime territory for wolf packs, a point the authorities used to justify the hunt.
One wildlife official said hunting for wolves during the summer is difficult, and the hunters may ask for state assistance.
