Wolf hunt winds down

   background

The wolf hunt in several southern Norwegian townships is coming to an end - without any predator casualties so far. The permission for most of the hunting granted has already expired.

In Rendalen, Hedmark, permission to decide to take wolves down has been seized by the local council. Rendalen's latest self-granted license to kill ran out on Monday and local authorities say that a new hunt will not be approved until a wolf approaches or damages livestock.

On Thursday permission to kill wolves in Øystre Sildre in Oppland and Agdenes and Snillfjord in South Trøndelag. In these places no damage has been reported after hunting was allowed and no trace of wolves has been found.

As a result, the activity in these areas has most been readying for action rather than pursuit of the wolves.
